My First Blog Interview with Joy Andreasen, Psychic/Medium

Joy Andreasen, Whispers of Joy

Joy is a Spiritual Life Coach. Shamanic Practitioner, Author and Tarot Reader.  I met Joy in March 2014 when I signed up for her Tarot class.  While taking that class she helped me realize that I, too, had a mediumship gift.  Since then, she’s been my favorite metaphysical teacher and she has trained me to be a Reiki Master, a shamanic practitioner and she has helped me hone my mediumship skills. Her teaching style is unstructured and always guided by Spirit.  She’s incredibly funny and warm and I am proud to call her my friend.

SG: When was the first time you realized you were different?
JA: I always knew I was different.  I always felt different and out of place.  I would see myself observing this world like I was not actually part of this world.  (Note from SG: a lot of lightworkers and people with psychic and medium gifts feel out of place here on Earth.  However, she is aware of her soul projecting a piece of herself onto three dimensional Earth).    I feel like a character out of the movie Avatar, where I look through the eyes of someone else.  I knew that I wasn’t from here.
In order to be present, I have to focus on being in my body.  I have always been aware of the unity of life. I can connect with other living beings, plants and animals.

SG: When was the first time you decided to find out what your gifts were and how to use them?
JA: Because my dad was a preacher, I thought I would grow up to marry a preacher and that would be my purpose in life.  When I grew older, I felt like there should be more to life than marrying a preacher.  I eventually switched to a church that believed in prophecy and befriended a prophet.  I knew that I could hear Spirit but I didn’t believe in myself.  The prophet helped me believe in myself.

SG: If you could give advice to your younger self about your gifts, what would you say?
JA: Believe in yourself and believe in the messages.  Don’t be afraid to give messages to people who have more power than you do.  I always felt intimidated, even though I challenged authority a lot.  I went to a year of Mennonite school and my beliefs were very different.  I always challenged their beliefs.

SG: What advice would you give to someone who just realized their spiritual gifts?
JA: Be patient with yourself.  Any skill requires time and practice.  You don’t become a master in a day or a week.  It’s a lifelong practice.

SG: What part of your gift is your favorite and why?  What is your least favorite and why?
JA: I don’t have a favorite.  I love to do it all.  I love teaching and allowing Spirit to talk through me.  I love when Spirit is in control.  My least favorite part would be not being able to connect with a client because they literally have a wall up.  I used to blame myself but realized it wasn’t my fault.

SG: What is the funniest thing that happened to you regarding your gifts?
JA: Recently I saw a stinkbug on my ceiling.  I was annoyed with its buzzing noise and spoke to it telepathically to come down and land on my hand and I will take it outside.  Immediately, the stinkbug flew down and hit me on the face.  I picked it up and put it outside.  I was surprised at how immediate the stinkbug responded to my request!

SG: Why do you think the Creator gave us these gifts?  And what are we supposed to use them for?
JA: We are here to increase the vibrational frequency of the Earth and help the Earth ascend into a higher plane.  When you walk into a dark room, only one light is needed to light up a room.  Imagine if many lights were turned on at once. We are here to increase the light for all living beings on Earth.

SG: Why are we here?
JA: We are here to evolve our souls.  We chose to incarnate on Earth and it is the school we chose to attend.  We are hopefully evolving to a more loving, knowledgeable person that understands him or herself better.  Sometimes a soul will incarnate just to do one thing for another and that’s it, the rest of their life is pretty mundane.  Every person is essential to what happens here.

SG: What do you wish that people knew and understood the most about you?
JA: People think psychics can see dead people all the time or they know everything about a person.  I don’t pick up on anything and I don’t know anything.  I only know what Spirit tells me.  Just because I can communicate with Spirit doesn’t mean I automatically know everything about you.

SG: What do you wish the world would know and understand?
JA: What you give out comes back.  Every thought has an effect and will come back to you.  We would be more kind and tolerant if we understood that.  I wish the politicians would understand that.  War doesn’t bring peace.  Peace brings peace.

SG: What do you envision the world will be like in the future?
JA: It’s up to us.  It can go either way.  We’re on a balancing scale and the collective consciousness of humans will tip the balancing scale.  When Jesus rode a donkey through the crowd, they cheered him and threw palms at his feet.  The next day the same people killed him.  One day they love you and the next day they hate you.  There’s no guarantee that it’s going to get better.  For example, in the presidential race it’s not a guarantee that the best candidate will win.  It’s important that lightworkers send their light to the best candidate and to every event before it happens without a predetermined selection.

Spirit asked her to send love and light to the Pope selection council so they would pick the best candidate.  Now Pope Francis is affecting the world in a wonderful way.

We should always do what Spirit tells us to do.  Some people are not going to understand Spirit’s messages because it is not their purpose.  I was a reluctant medium myself; at first I just wanted to pass on messages from the angels.

Finally Finding My Life Purpose

Yes I know it's been a while since I posted.  Things have been weird lately.  I mean, I still see many angel signs (feathers and numbers and even angel wings in the bathroom mirror) but feel like Spirit has been quiet...like they are "busy."  I have a good friend who is an Angel Intuitive as well (you can check out her website here) and she's been feeling the same thing.  She's even gone as far to say she's losing her psychic abilities which I know is not true.

But I wanted to spend time talking about finding your life purpose.   I have been searching for this my entire life.  I always did well in school (despite not excelling at aptitude tests like the SAT or GRE) and I have always wanted to help people, especially people in dire need of help, such as the poor, the hungry or those suffering from war.  By the time I was a college student at New York University (NYU), I narrowed my major down to Urban Studies.  Being a native New Yorker and in love with the city at the time, I felt it was my duty to help.  I looked at government as being the answer or way I would do this.

After two years at NYU, I transferred to SUNY Binghamton basically because of tuition costs.  At the time NYU cost $22,000 a year (seems low compared to my nephew's current tuition of $56,000 a year), so I felt it would be better to transfer there.  The catch was there was no Urban Studies major available, so I picked the closest thing: Political Science.

When I graduated in 1995 I had no idea what kind of job I could get.  A friend suggested I go to grad school so I dodged that bullet and got my Masters in Public Administration.  After graduating I moved back to NYC and got a job in development.  I soon realized I didn't like development and started applying for other jobs.  Actually let's be honest, I got fired from that job and I didn't really care.  I applied for federal jobs because it paid more.  I got offered a job in the city and in Washington DC and I decided to go to DC.

To make a long story short, I kept trying to make a difference but it wasn't working.  And I kept running into crazy office politics, or I got promised to move to a department I wanted to be in and it never happened or, saving the best for last, at my last job I got appendicitis and almost died.

Okay I get the picture now.

All the money and time invested in that career didn't seem to matter.  I know now that this was not a path I was supposed to continue.  So in frustration, I begged my husband to let me leave that job. I did and I focused on something else, having a family.

After my oldest daughter was born, I became a Stay At Home Mom.  And I was happy.  At least I didn't have to deal any difficult people at work.  But I still had that nagging feeling, How was I going to "help"?

Last fall, after seven years of being a stay at home mom, I hit a wall.  I was burnt out.  I hated cooking. I hated doing the laundry.  For years I told myself that I was supporting the family but I needed to do something for myself.  Something other than being a mom or a wife.  So I did two things: became a certified Zumba instructor and got a job teaching art.  I loved teaching art and I still do it.

In the meantime, a friend and I reconnected and we both realized we were on the same spiritual path. She was getting trained in Reiki but I had no interest in it--she is now a Reiki master.  But something changed in me by last spring.  I wanted to try it and I loved it.

I finally found how to help others.  When I conduct a Reiki session, I help my clients release emotions, discover their past lives, reunite with passed loved ones and even learn who their guardian angels are.  When my clients leave they literally look like a different people: relaxed and at peace. That peaceful look on their face is absolutely priceless.

So I finally figured it out after 41 years!  I thought I never would.

I know that my life purpose does not end with Reiki.  I have had two readings with similar messages. The first was "I've just begun" and the second was "this is just a dress rehearsal."  Yes that's right, everything UP TO THIS POINT WAS PRACTICE!  This is what I have done so far since April 2013 (my moment of awakening):

  • communicate, see, touch and be touched by Archangels, angels, Ascended Masters, spirit guides and animal guides
  • see and talk with fairies
  • conduct accurate Tarot and Oracle readings for myself and others
  • enter the Akashic library and retrieve the soul book for myself and others
  • discovered over 50 specific past lives I have lived on earth
  • trained in Reiki 1 and 2
  • communicate with passed loved ones and help them heal (both humans and spirits)
  • learn and use crystals for healing
  • communicate with crystals and even released a trapped spirit
And this is just the dress rehearsal.  Wow!  Something big is going to happen and it's delicious to wait and see what's to come.

Are you ready to go on the ride with me?
